Georgetown is a historic seaport and the third oldest town in South Carolina. It is located on the west side of Winyah Bay at the convergence of the Sampit, Great Pee Dee, Black and Waccamaw Rivers. In recent years it has become a travel destination or stopover for those seeking a charismatic waterfront community to explore off the beaten path. Downtown's Front Street stretches along the Sampit River and offers the Harborwalk along with a number of interesting waterfront restaurants and quaint gift shops. The downtown section also features many privately owned, historically registered colonial and antebellum homes that give a glimpse back to Georgetown's indigo and rice era.
Georgetown lodging accommodations range from budget motels to several historic homes now operating as bed and breakfast inns. The hotels and motels are located east of downtown very near Winyah Bay and the Georgetown Landing Marina.
Georgetown holds a number of annual events including March's "Prince George Episcopal Plantation Tours" and the "Mardis Gras Parade". In April "The Blessing of the Fleet" and the "Shag Festival" recognize the area's seafood and music history. In October the popular "Wooden Boat Show" and the "Bridge 2 Bridge Run" are held. Finally, in December check out the "Taste of Georgetown" for an opportunity to sample local culinary delights from Georgetown restaurants and bakeries.
Pawleys Island is located 15 miles north on US 17 and is the nearest public beach access. If you're traveling south on US 17 toward Charleston, Georgetown's hotels are the last hotels you'll see for 52 miles.

How Do We Define Motel?
To us, motels are smaller lodgings that have rooms you can enter directly from the parking area.
At hotels, on the other hand, you can enter your room only through a hall inside the building.
Hotel Booking Tips
Beware of non-refundable reservations that could cost you a lot of money if you change or cancel them. +Non-refundable reservations are a gamble that will usually save you less than $10. If you make a $90 non-refundable reservation instead of a $100 refundable booking, you are betting $90 to win $10. Would you do that in Las Vegas? -
Don't assume you can cancel a non-refundable reservation without penalty if you notify the hotel weeks or even months in advance. +Often you cannot because some hotels' profit strategy is to get paid more than once for the same room for the same night. -
Always read cancellation policies carefully before you make a reservation. + When is the latest date and time you can cancel without penalty? - More >
When you make a reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. Take a copy with you to the hotel.
The earlier in the afternoon you check into a hotel, the more likely you will get a room or suite that matches your preferences.
