"I had a pleasant hotel stay, though other guests were loud. The staff was friendly and always cleaning something. We'll stay again and recommend it.2019-04-07"
"The hotel clerk was kind of rude, but other than that, it was a nice place despite being somewhat overpriced. Got my wake-up call a half hour early.2023-04-12"
"The closet doors in my hotel room were off the track and wouldn't open, and there were bugs in the bathroom. The hallway had trash and bugs in it. Spend your money elsewhere.2018-02-27"
"The motel was difficult to find; I had to call the front desk clerk 3 times before I found it. On departure, an employee was leaving her shift and said I could follow her to I-20. The employees were nice, and breakfast was adequate.2022-12-30"
Aiken was founded in 1835. It has a rich history as the "Winter Colony"
attracting many wealthy equestrian sport enthusiasts to escape the cold northeast
and winter in Aiken's moderate climate. Many of the lavish homes built during
this period still exist and are a popular attraction for visitors.
This early influence has shaped Aiken into South Carolina's "Thoroughbred
Country". The historic downtown area also retains the charm developed during this
bygone era. Many of Aiken's best restaurants can be found downtown.
Aiken's lodging ranges from budget motels to upscale hotels that provide travelers
plenty of rooms from which to choose. There are ample things to see and do while
visiting, many of them free like strolling through Hopelands Gardens and hiking
in Hitchcock Woods. A short list of popular events include:
The "Aiken Trials" held annually in March feature thoroughbred racing as the first leg of Aiken's Triple Crown followed on consecutive weekends by steeplechase and polo.
The "Aiken Bluegrass Festival", "Southern Steel Guitar Convention" and "Wagons to Wagener Festival" in May or late spring.
"Aiken Music Festival" and "Storks & Corks" in June and August.
"Aiken's Makin'" in September features handcrafted arts and crafts along with food and live entertainment.
Finally, be sure to check out "Christmas In Hopelands" with its alluring Christmas lights arranged throughout the gardens in December.
The best thing about using HotelGuides was that I didn't have to pay for my stay in advance, yet I was able to get the best rate.

How Do We Define Motel?
To us, motels are smaller lodgings that have rooms you can enter directly from the parking area.
At hotels, on the other hand, you can enter your room only through a hall inside the building.
Hotel Booking Tips
Beware of non-refundable reservations that could cost you a lot of money if you change or cancel them. +Non-refundable reservations are a gamble that will usually save you less than $10. If you make a $90 non-refundable reservation instead of a $100 refundable booking, you are betting $90 to win $10. Would you do that in Las Vegas? -
Don't assume you can cancel a non-refundable reservation without penalty if you notify the hotel weeks or even months in advance. +Often you cannot because some hotels' profit strategy is to get paid more than once for the same room for the same night. -
Always read cancellation policies carefully before you make a reservation. + When is the latest date and time you can cancel without penalty? - More >
When you make a reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. Take a copy with you to the hotel.
The earlier in the afternoon you check into a hotel, the more likely you will get a room or suite that matches your preferences.
