Escondido is in southwestern California near the junction of I-15 and CA 78. It is
30 miles north of San Diego, California and home to the San Diego Zoo Wild Animal Park. Most Escondido hotels and motels are near the downtown area at I-15, Exit 31 at Valley Parkway or to the north at Exit 33 near El Norte Parkway. The Welk Resort is 11 miles north of downtown.
