"The room was spacious, and breakfast was good. The staff wasn't consistently customer service-oriented, though. We tried calling for hours to inform the staff we'd be arriving late, but we were never able to get through. When we arrived, the hotel clerk said she'd used the phone and it worked fine. The heating and cooling unit was so loud it interrupted our sleep. Never got our requested wake-up call. Even though the room rates weren't cheap, we also had to pay for parking. We won't return.2018-12-05"
"I enjoyed staying at this hotel.2018-08-09"
"The hotel was clean and nicely updated. Good hospitality. The only disappointment was the cable TV didn't work. I recommend staying here.2017-11-13"

"Our room was right next to the freeway, so the traffic noise was loud. The shower light had a leak, and the fluid was a strange color. Don't stay at this hotel.2021-06-14"
"An outstanding hotel. Stay here.2019-01-30"
"We didn't want housekeeping our 1st morning, but our room was never serviced and we never got fresh towels; I had to find a housekeeper and request some. Breakfast wasn't that good. We were disappointed.2018-03-05"

"Good rates. The hotel room was clean, and everything was perfect. Fast check-in. I can't wait to go back.2021-11-08"
"I wasn't satisfied with the quality of this hotel. The hospitality was fine, but the carpet was dirty and hadn't been vacuumed, and the AC didn't work well. There was mold on the shower wall. I should have stayed in my car.2021-08-28"
"Hotel room was small but clean. Nice pool area and restaurant.2015-02-22"
"The motel was beautiful, and the staff was superb. I definitely plan to return.2022-06-22"
"The motel staff was so friendly. There was a lot to see within walking distance.2022-01-25"
"The motel reeked of sewage, which backed up into the sink and made our room smell awful. The bathroom was inoperable. We checked out. The front desk clerk offered us $18 to compensate us for parking. Don't stay here.2016-12-14"

"Don't expect any bells or whistles at this hotel. Convenient to MCRD, but there was a spiked fence around the lattice fence surrounding the upstairs balcony. The room reminded me of military barracks. The staff was friendly. Be careful leaving the parking garage; the incline scraped the bottom of my car. OK if you're budget-minded, but don't stay here if you want semi-luxury.2017-09-20"
"Close to Old San Diego. Hotel was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Plenty of hot water for showers. We left an item behind, and the staff promptly mailed it to us. We stayed 3 days and would stay again.2015-03-23"
"The motel badly needed maintenance. Our room was above the laundry room and was always hot. There was no carpet, and the tiles were peeling off the floor. The parking lot was small. I won't stay here again.2018-12-06"
"Convenient to downtown, Balboa Park, SeaWorld, Fashion Valley Mall, and many other attractions. The room rate was reasonable and included WiFi and continental breakfast. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The only downside was that I lost an item of clothing that I assume was gathered up with the laundry, and the hotel staff was unable to locate it. The breakfast room got crowded, so go early. I definitely recommend this motel to anyone looking for an inexpensive place to sleep.2015-07-08"
"Good location near MCRD, restaurants, and the freeway. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Use ear plugs if your room is on the freeway side of the building.2023-09-23"
"The room was clean, and all the rooms had new mattresses. The front desk clerk was friendly and helpful. Not a luxury hotel, but it was comfortable enough. Nice pool. There were some maintenance issues, though, and the shower controls were backwards.2020-01-08"
"The hotel room was clean, spacious, and had a fridge and coffee maker. 2019-04-08"
"Close to the trolley, so it was easy to get around and get to SDCCU Stadium. There was a Food For Less within walking distance. Good hotel overall. The room had a fridge and microwave.2019-01-06"
"Easy access to downtown and the stadium, and the trolley was just across the street. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Great place to stay.2016-12-30"

"I arrived late, and there was nobody at the desk to check me in. The room smelled like smoke. No dishes or utensils in the kitchen, and no hair dryer in the bathroom. Don't stay here.2018-08-07"
"Good experience, but there was no wine bottle opener at the motel.2015-10-15"
"I loved the room. Check this hotel out.2021-09-04"
"The motel was run-down and in need of repair. The front desk clerk gave me incorrect directions. The only positive was that the place was clean. The bag breakfast was a joke. Find another place to stay.2021-07-10"
"Good location. The beds were comfortable, and the continental breakfast was terrific. The hotel does charge for parking.2019-09-22"
"Nice hotel staff, and the service was good.2023-10-21"
"The hotel shuttle only went to the airport, the marine base, and Old Town. I had to arrange my own transportation to the USS Midway and the zoo. Ask for a room away from the freeway.2023-09-15"
"From the airport shuttle to the hotel, all the employees were so nice, and the property was clean. The shuttle took us everywhere we needed to go, and the drivers were informative. Great pool, and we were able to do our laundry. You can't beat this place for price and accommodations. Stay here.2023-06-21"
"The motel was clean and comfortable, and the staff was accommodating. We had an early flight, and there was no food available for breakfast at that time. Go for it.2022-07-18"

"One of the key cards didn't work. The shower faucet ran; I told the front desk, but it wasn't repaired. Find another motel.2021-09-04"

How Do We Define Motel?
To us, motels are smaller lodgings that have rooms you can enter directly from the parking area.
At hotels, on the other hand, you can enter your room only through a hall inside the building.
Hotel Booking Tips
Beware of non-refundable reservations that could cost you a lot of money if you change or cancel them. +Non-refundable reservations are a gamble that will usually save you less than $10. If you make a $90 non-refundable reservation instead of a $100 refundable booking, you are betting $90 to win $10. Would you do that in Las Vegas? -
Don't assume you can cancel a non-refundable reservation without penalty if you notify the hotel weeks or even months in advance. +Often you cannot because some hotels' profit strategy is to get paid more than once for the same room for the same night. -
Always read cancellation policies carefully before you make a reservation. + When is the latest date and time you can cancel without penalty? - More >
When you make a reservation, you will receive a confirmation email. Take a copy with you to the hotel.
The earlier in the afternoon you check into a hotel, the more likely you will get a room or suite that matches your preferences.
